Community Over Competition

Community Over Competition. What does this actually mean? Three words I have been thinking about a lot lately. I think it depends on what you are looking to get out of it. For me personally, having a strong sense of community involvement is really important and I am always looking for opportunities within our region to give back. Being part of local organizations that make a difference in our community has always been a passion of mine.

A couple weeks ago I wrote a blog post about the quotes that inspire me and I received a message from a girl that frequently shops at Ferne. Sidenote, her name is Selena and she does the most amazing caligraphy work! I suggest you follow her page on Instagram @selenaashley_letters and you will soon want one of her awesome pieces. Anyway, her message said that after reading my blog she thought I would want to join this group that she is part of called The Rising Tide Society.  I instantly Googled this group (obviously) to figure out what they are all about. When I got to their website, this statement instantly made me very excited for the Tuesday Meetup!

"It is our hope to cultivate a society of creative entrepreneurs who believe in community over competition and have a desire to lead with love. From this dream, #TuesdaysTogether was born. A meetup on the second Tuesday of every month where creatives + entrepreneurs gather together for coffee and conversation. An open space for idea sharing and goal building. Separated by distance, but beautifully united by a hashtag and a shared desire for community. Because isn’t that what we all deserve? A safe place to belong."

After reading this I instantly knew I was in. I think someone perfectly put the words into sentences while channeling my heart! I texted my friend Tosha from Tosha Cole Photography and asked her if she wanted to come. She said yes and we were both very excited to see what this group had to offer.

We met at Blossoms Asian Bistro in Bay City. Sushi, Hibachi and Udon... so basically yummy food and what I found out to be some pretty awesome company. It ended up being 5 of us girls meeting for dinner. I love meeting new people that are doing what they love that want to support others.

To sum up our night in a few words would be impossible but here it goes! We laughed A LOT, ate delicious food,  got to know each other, talked about how we are making a difference and really just had a relaxing and fun night.

These words "Community Over Competition" really stuck with me after this meetup. It inspired me to continue to get better at what I'm doing because there are other creative women entrepreneurs out there doing things they love while helping others. These women are compassionate, empathetic and overall supportive of what each other are doing. They have inspired me to keep pushing forwarding and  I am very excited for future meetups!

Here we are after dinner, before we went over to Buffalo Wild Wings to have a drink.
